No. The Influencer can show their preference of payment and collaboration via their profile but 5StarTeachers can never be held responsible for paying out influencers. That is something to be agreed upon between the two of you, i.e. the Teacher and the Influencer. That being said, our Teachers can use a coupon code and a specific Course link to collaborate with the Influencer to maintain 100% transparency. We have a feature on the platform to facilitate this. And if enough Influencers want to see an option to have their payments received through the platform, we may look into it.
Any. Simple.
Subjects can range from academic subjects for school or university, to business and personal development like coaching, for example.
Say you are experienced in beer brewing and you want to be a consultant for people who want to start out brewing beer, that should be possible.
Say you want to share your knowledge and insights from your career as a salesperson, that should be possible. I'm not aware of any Bachelor's or Master's degree in "sales", are you?
So go find your best talent, gift or skill and start using that to generate an income from wherever you are, online, 1-to-1 via screen sharing and video calls.
Good to know:
You cannot set an unlimited number of skills on our platform. Only 3. So choose them wisely. Follow your heart, follow your passion.
The limit of your earnings depends on how many Courses you've sold, at what price you've sold them and how much of your earnings we keep.
Once you have become an approved 5StarTeacher, we pay out 95% of every Course you've sold during the first 3 months counting from the day of your approval. So that means Courses which have been booked and paid for in full before the end of your first 3 months of being an approved 5StarTeacher. For all Courses you've sold after these first 3 months, we pay out 85%.
Absolutely!
Case:
Imagine you are a money managing expert and you have created a spreadsheet that is rather complex but super useful and that you believe all your Students would want. In such a case you would upload that file which becomes immediately available for download once the Student bought that specific Course, i.e. paid in full.
Look for "course files" on the Course edit page.
You can easily use this as a marketing strategy and attract many people to buy your Course.
Okay, here's 5StarTeachers in a nutshell. Every person above 18 who feels they are an expert in some thing, whatever that is, can come on board 5StarTeachers and create Courses to teach, coach or advise people from 6 to 106, 1-to-1, online via screen sharing and video calls.
Why? Because we believe in "Real Human Interaction"
And of course, to keep 5StarTeachers a 5-star platform all Teachers AND their Courses are thoroughly screened by our team. Every Teacher and every Course must have a high-quality introduction video. You don’t need a diploma or a degree to teach, coach or advise on 5StarTeachers but you do need to show us passion, experience, and a never-ending commitment to deliver great value and high quality.
If we can’t see this, we simply cannot accept your application. This is not to punish you, but to protect the quality we vouch for here on our platform. And for anyone who has experienced other teaching platforms, here, there is NO back-and-forth communication before Student buys. Just like on Amazon: They either buy or they don’t. And so, your introduction video becomes YOUR ticket to more sales.
And in return for your commitment our team will stand by you, and our platform is designed to make your life easier and will help you set lots of “strategic” marketing features that allow you to define your own niche, your own market so you can stand out from the crowd even as we grow. And so that you don’t need to build your own website or platform to attract Students, sell your Courses and earn money.
This is a teacher-centred platform where we take GREAT care of our Teachers, first. Because it's the basis for providing high quality and GREAT value to our Students.
"Allow repeated bookings" is a checkbox on every Course. When you edit your Course and you tick this checkbox, you allow Students to book that Course over and over again. Once you untick it, anyone who has bought that Course with you before, will not be able to book this Course again.
This can be a great strategy to create recurring customers by requiring them to take on a greater commitment e.g. to buy the Multi-session version of this Course.
The Session Expiry Date is the date at which an "unbooked" Session automatically expires or "disappears" from a Teacher's Available Sessions list. It is automatically defined when the Teacher sets his "Session Expiry Term".
This can be one of the following:
2 hours,
4 hours,
12 hours,
24 hours,
48 hours.
Case.
Suppose a Teacher chooses to set their "Session Expiry Term" to 48 hours. Now all his Available Sessions (Sessions available for booking) will now expire 48 hours before their Start Date and Time. This means that if now is Sunday noon, their next Available Session can only be on Tuesday at noon or later and all Sessions that were available between now (Sunday at noon) and Tuesday at noon have now automatically disappeared or expired and therefore can no longer be booked. This gives a certain freedom to the Teacher.
The Session Expiry Term is also important for "rescheduling" a previously booked Session.
Case.
Suppose that today is Sunday noon and a Student has booked a Session for Wednesday at noon with this Teacher. However, something has come up for her and she wishes to reschedule.
IF she still has "Rescheduling Quotas" left, she can reschedule but must do so before ... and here it comes ... the "Session Expiry Date".
IF she does, she will be able to book that Session again in the future before her Course ends.
IF she does it AFTER this date but BEFORE the Session Start Date and Time, it will be considered a "cancellation" and she will lose this Session.
IF she does nothing and does not show up, she's a no-show and the Session is considered a cancellation.
Your video must be of high quality.
We are sure that you will do the necessary to make this happen as it is in your best interest to make the best possible video of yourself so you can be booked and paid. No face usually means: no sales. Simple. Therefore, faceless videos are not allowed. In case you still want to do that, reach out to us and we will recommend you other teaching platforms where this is allowed.
However, we do want to give you our guidelines in case you are unsure. This is after all an FAQ.
High quality means that not only the quality of the image is high but also the quality of the content and the visibility of YOU i.e. your face! Ensure it is sharp, uncovered and completely in the picture.
For Personal Introduction Videos (PIV):
- screen-wide slides or clips may be used,
- clips with photos of people may be used only if they are relevant to your profile e.g. if you are a make-up artist and in such case you must have the permission to use those clips,
- your face and your voice must appear in sync,
- your face and your voice must appear at least 75% throughout the length of your video,
- your face and your voice may not appear inside a box, a circle or other kind of frame or placeholder,
- your face must cover at least 50% of the height of your video,
- if you use music or sound effects, you must have the license to use them,
- if you use images of any kind, you must have the license to use them.
If it's required to give attribution, write it in your Video description and we'll add it on YouTube.
For Course Introduction Videos (CIV):
- screen-wide slides or clips may be used,
- clips with photos of people may be used only if they are relevant to your Course e.g. if you are a photographer and in such case you must have the permission to use those clips,
- your face and your voice must appear in sync,
- your face and your voice must appear at least 50% throughout the length of your video,
- your face and your voice may appear inside a box, a circle or other kind of frame or placeholder,
- your face must cover at least 30% of the height of your video,
Sound Quality
Aim for an output of around -6dB to -3dB (check your meters)
Ensure that your voice is clear and pleasant to listen to i.e. use good EQ settings
If you use background music, ensure it is at least 16dB lower than the level of your voice.
If you use background music, ensure you have the license to use it.
If it's required to give attribution, write it in your Video description and we'll add it on YouTube.
Language
75% of your video must be in spoken English and if you use another language to address your own market, you must translate it in English in a subtitles file in .srt format
If you place titles in your video in a different language, they must also appear in your subtitles file in .srt format
If you'd like, you are allowed to place burnt-in captions but they can only be in English and must be congruent and in sync with your voice.
Duration of the video
Shorter is usually better. Your video must be at least 30 seconds long and maximum 3 minutes long. This is the length of your own finished uploaded video.
You upload your video in 2 ways:
- an uncompressed version in a 16x9 .mp4 format and maximum size is 500MB via a public Google link, and
- an "unlisted" YouTube version of this uncompressed version via a YouTube link for our Team to quickly check
Ensure that your uncompressed linked Google video "name" contains all the information our Video Editors need: size, dimensions, quality, format, etc.
Example:
English-Language-Coaching-For-Project-Presentation-on-5StarTeachers-by-Davido-CIV-1920x1080-16x9-60fps-20260129.en_GB.mp4
Video Approval
Once your video is approved, our Video Editors will download your uncompressed version and add a 5StarTeacher pre-roll and an end-roll to it. They will then upload this version onto our YouTube channel and link that video to your Video content. Once our Moderator has approved the work done by our Video Editors, they will publish it and then you can connect it to your Course if it's a CIV or to your profile if it's a PIV. In case you are a Pre-Teacher, it will automatically be connected for you.
Videos that cannot be approved
Because we can't list all the possibilities here (near infinite) we're still going to give you a few "common sense" ones:
- make no references in any shape or form to other websites that you own
- make no references in any shape or form to other websites where you teach students acquired outside of our platform or want to teach our Students.
- make no references in any shape or form to other websites where you could connect with our Students e.g. your Linkedin profile
- Do not mention your last name. We know you love your last name, it's beautiful and important, but our platform is not a place to come harvesting Students without giving anything back.
If we cannot approve your video, our Moderator will leave you a comment that will clarify what you need to change and why.
No, it doesn't. Students buy or they don't buy.
We ensure that you have lots of strategic features that you can use to make your Course stand out from the crowd. When Students search for Courses in which they are interested, we give every Course a chance to be found. We're not like Google who only float the most liked, most seen to the top. But the reason why they would buy your Course has everything to do with the value you offer in your Course description, the Course price, the Course features you've set that are attractive to them (e.g. screen sharing options, course files, repeat bookings, coupon codes, influencer connections, etc.), and the quality of your Personal Introduction Video (PIV) and your Course Introduction Video (CIV).
As a 5StarTeacher, you are in control of when your available Sessions should automatically expire in case they were "not booked". That's why created the "Session Expiry Term". This allows you to automatically set or change the expiry date and time of all of your Available Sessions at once.
The Session's Booking Expiry Date and Time is the date and time at which an unbooked Session automatically expires. You can set your Session Expiry Term to 2 hours, 4 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours or 48 hours before the start of every Session. Currently, each month you can change this setting only 3 times.
Why is this so?
This is so that Students can rely on booking Sessions with you if you keep this consistent.
Suppose you had set your Session Expiry Term at "2 hours", meaning all your Available Sessions would automatically expire 2 hours before the start date and time in case they were not booked, and you changed your "Session Expiry Term" to 48 hours, all your Sessions within the next 48 hours from that moment, would then automatically expire.
Case.
Suppose it's Friday evening but something unforeseen has come up for the weekend e.g. the babysitter has fallen ill and you need to stand in. You can then change your Session Expiry Term to 48 hours and all your "Available" Sessions will automatically expire. Note that previously "Booked" Sessions for somewhere during this weekend will not go away, you do need to show up for those as you made a commitment earlier. If that were not possible for you, you can choose to cancel those Sessions. Check out "Cancelling Sessions" in the FAQ section to learn more.
Case.
Suppose a Student asked you during a Session with her if you would be available tomorrow as well, at the same time. Now if your Session Expiry Term were set to 48 hours, that would not be possible. So here you can solve this by changing your "Session Expiry Term" to something like 12 hours, and then create a new Available Session for your Student so they can book it right away and everyone is happy.
Here's why:
- it's just not allowed. See our Terms & Conditions.
- the acquired Student can report you for this at any time. And if they do, you are liable to prosecution. Is that really worth it?
- it may be convenient for you as a Teacher but may be less convenient for the Student i.e. on our platform they have a guarantee,
- you would have to create, market and sell your Courses on your own,
- you would have to spend 'unpaid' time selling and pitching your Courses to potential customers,
- you may not have the exposure to lots of potential customers who come here to find the right teacher, coach, consultant or expert in the field,
- we'll make sure you'll miss the convenience of using our platform by continuously improving the user experience on our platform. That's a guarantee.

Good to know: Check your profile page to see a comprehensible profile status card. (this is private info)
Yes, you can. Up to 4 translations.
This is a great strategy to target a specific audience. You add the translations in the field "Description Other Languages". When you do, make sure that the first text is the 2-letter code of the translated language. Then select these 2 letters and choose the option "language" from the formatting styles dropdown menu. Hit enter and write your translation in the text field. Example:
Once you save it, it will automatically show up as a clickable language tab above the Course description.
Note that all Courses load in English first.
A Strategy:
To share a link in your social circles or via an influencer for a particular market you are targeting, you can create a language link for that particular Course. Simply copy the link of the Course and add: ?lang=FR at the end so that it looks something like this:
https://5starteachers.net/my-course-link-here?lang=FR
The Course translation in French will now appear as the primary language upon loading the page and if your users use Safari's Reader, they will see the Reader in French. Cool, huh?
We pay out every month on the 1st of the month, just like you would receive a salary.
Note that you can only be paid out if
1) the Course you've sold has been completed, i.e. if there are no more outstanding Sessions for that Course and the Course end date has not been reached yet OR the Course end date has been reached, and
2) you have requested payment for that Course by clicking the "request payment" button on your Financial Transactions overview page.
Only when you click the request payment button for a completed Course, it will be included in your next payment because we want to give you the option to "aggregate" your incoming payments in order to reduce the bank charges you will incur from receiving your payments made by us. Banks charge money for every transfer and on our platform these are borne by the receiver. Therefore we, 5StarTeachers, bear the bank charges from the payments made by the Students, and you, the Teacher, bears the bank charges from the payments made by us, 5StarTeachers. The fewer transfers you have, the lower your overall bank charge will be, and the more money you get to keep.
An "unlisted" Course is a Course that will not show up in any of our listings on the platform. This means that no one can search and find this Course unless they have the correct link to that "unlisted" Course. If so, they can see it and book it. It's very useful for marketing your own Courses especially by using Influencers or when you only want people in your own social circles to find them.
A Strategy
Suppose you are a famous person or very popular on our platform, you can easily set all your Courses to "unlisted" so that only the ones who have the link to your Course, can book it. It makes you more exclusive and you have more control over your marketing data and efforts.
No. Out of the question.
Why not?
When you are an approved 5StarTeacher on our platform, your profile, your Courses, and your videos have been thoroughly screened and checked by our Team. The "5star" part in our name is congruent with our commitment: to always deliver high quality and great value. We don't want anyone to waste your time. And therefore we do things differently.
Your "paid" Single-session Course is the best opportunity to show your Students what value you have to offer and the best opportunity for them to experience you as a teacher, coach, consultant or expert in the field.
So make sure that you have created a 5-star value Course with an attractive title, a concise and clear Course description and a confident Course Introduction Video which will function as your sales pitch. And if that is all 5-star quality, it will be approved by our Team and we're sure Students will take your Courses.
No back-and-forth sales conversations before they buy on our platform.
They either buy, or they don't. Just like on Amazon.
Currently we only pay out through regular bank transfer and Paypal so make sure that you fill out your bank details correctly on your profile.
Please note that we bear all costs for receiving the payment from your Students and that you will bear all bank charges for payments you receive from us. Therefore, in order to minimise these bank charges on your end, we've added an option for you to aggregate all your outstanding payments so you can reduce the costs on your end.
To do so: go to My Financial Transactions > Pending Course Payments . This is a list where you can see all your Courses that are completed and have outstanding payments in your favour. You can then choose to have them paid out all in one amount on the 1st of the next month by clicking/tapping on the "Request Payment button".
Note: If your bank account is in Hong Kong, payments will occur faster and with far fewer bank charges on your end because our bank account is with HSBC in Hong Kong.
